THE WOMEN WHO REFUSE TO STAND IN ANYONE’S SHADOW -
WORLD NUMBER ONE LINDSAY DAVENPORT TO PLAY WISMILAK INTERNATIONAL
2005

Yet another milestone in the history of the Wismilak International
was reached today when reigning world number one Lindsay
Davenport announced that she will take part in South East
Asia’s richest women’s tennis event. Lindsay
will join other top stars such as defending champion Svetlana
Kuznetsova of Russia, Switzerland’s Patty Schnyder
and one of the fastest rising stars on the Sony Ericsson
WTA Tour, Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic.
“We are delighted that a player
of Lindsay Davenport’s stature wants to play in Bali,”
said tournament director Kevin Livesey. “The reputation
of the tournament as one that offers fierce competition
in a relaxing environment is a tribute to all those who
make the Wismilak International such a popular event with
both players and spectators. We are also thrilled to welcome
back many ‘old friends’ such as Svetlana Kuznetsova
and Jill Craybas, as well as to welcome new faces to Bali,
such as Patty Schnyder and Francesca Schiavone.”
